At Intellischool, we made a conscious decision not to rush into integrating AI into our products. Instead, we've spent time ensuring that we address some notable core concerns with AI - such as bias, data privacy, and poor quality outputs - by building a foundational platform that incorporates research and evidence into AI algorithms.
Starting in 2024, we're making AI-powered education possible for any school, using the power hidden within their existing data.

Designed with a passion for education and a commitment to empowering students and educators, Orville's purpose is to help draw relevant, actionable insights from data across your school. With Orville by your side, you'll have a personalised virtual assistant that harnesses the power of AI to support growth, provide valuable insights, and help navigate the educational journey of every learner whilst treating data with care and respect.
Orville's skills will grow over time, but initially, we're focused on three core impact objectives:
1. Predictive analytics: empowering educators with insights
Our team believes that AI has the potential to revolutionize the way educators understand student learning patterns and tailor instruction to individual needs. Orville will analyze vast amounts of data from various sources, including academic performance, engagement levels, and learning preferences to generate predictive insights. These insights provide educators with a deeper understanding of each student's strengths, weaknesses, and areas for growth, enabling personalised interventions and targeted support.
Orville's predictive analytics are grounded in robust research and best practices in the field of education. Through our partnership with the Graduate School of Education at the University of Melbourne, we ensure that Orville's recommendations align with pedagogical principles and are validated by empirical evidence. This integration of AI and educational expertise enables us to provide educators with valuable insights, allowing them to make data-informed decisions that positively impact student learning outcomes.
2. Enhanced Pulse alerts: collaborating for student wellbeing
We recognize that student wellbeing plays a crucial role in academic success. To address this, we collaborate with partners (like Komodo and Skodel) to integrate data that goes beyond academic performance. Orville will draw on that additional data to enhance our Pulse alerts functionality, identifying early warning signs and generating appropriate, targeted alerts for educators and support staff.
These early warning alerts serve as a proactive tool to help identify and address potential challenges that may impact a student's wellbeing or academic progress.
3. Identifying skill gaps: connecting the dots for student success
Every student has unique learning requirements. Identifying and addressing skill gaps is essential for their progress; because Orville analyses data from multiple sources, we're enabling our customers to unlock insights buried in the gaps between systems. Orville can identify patterns, diagnose, develop targeted interventions, and personalise learning pathways beyond what AI-enhanced niche tools can do.
This data-driven approach empowers educators to make informed decisions about instructional strategies, identify effective pedagogy, and ultimately optimize student learning outcomes.
Ensuring secure and responsible implementation of AI technology
Safeguarding student data is paramount. At present, schools that embrace AI technologies can often struggle with the transparency around the technology involved in AI, data storage and processing locations, and ensuring that sensitive information is not used for training publicly accessible models.

We believe that the users of our products should have a clear understanding of how AI algorithms work and what data is being utilised. Our system will provide explanations for Orville's recommendations, empowering users to make informed decisions about its usage. In building Orville, we've worked with the team at Google to ensure that we have full control over what data Orville is using, where it's being drawn from, and why it needs to be accessed.
Our team of experts ensures that data is protected at every stage, from collection to storage and analysis. Privacy is not just a checkbox for us; it is an inherent aspect of our design philosophy.

Orville fully complies with the Safer Technologies 4 Schools (ST4S) guidelines, as it's built on top of the Intellischool Data Platform. By adhering to these rigorous standards, we assure educators, parents, and students that their information is treated with the utmost care and respect.
